Healing Tea with Licorice Root

Licorice Root Tea by Foodie in Pce

When I was a child, I loved chewing on licorice candy. Even now, from time to time, when my kids beg me to buy them this treat, I can't resist to have a bite. Well, maybe my body tried to tell me for all those years the reason why I am so attracted to licorice.

Licorice Root Benefits

Licorice root ( Glycyrrhiza glabra ) can be found growing in Europe, the Mediterranean and Asia, and it’s been used for thousands of years including as a leaky gut remedy. As I have leaky gut, licorice root is the herb of choice. In Chinese medicine, anti-inflammatory licorice root has been used for centuries for coughs and colds, gastrointestional issues, and female reproductive issues. It also has been used in ancient Greece and Rome to the Middle Ages and beyond. It has an effect on metabolism and functions as a phytoestrogen — having a very positive effect on women’s health. It is a natural remedy for heartburn, nausea, indigestion and stomach pain. As an anti-inflammatory and demulcent (soothing) herb, licorice root works as a natural remedy for ulcers. Licorice was found to help the body more efficiently regulate cortisol — the stress hormone. As you can see, licorice has so much to offer than candy!
